Sacred Spaces: McGreal Center Architecture Project
You can keep up with our progress by viewing our tours under construction .
The Sacred Spaces Project at Dominican University seeks to preserve and digitally archive architectural spaces of the Dominican family across the United States, and the sacred spaces of all faiths within the City of Chicago. This project takes an innovative approach to historic preservation by creating interactive 360 degree captures of significant sacred spaces using gigapixel panoramas and drone photography. This is a new initiative of Project OPUS which has expanded to cover all faith communities in the City of Chicago through generous funding from the Driehaus Foundation.
Digital tours are curated by community members, archivists and historians. The result is an interactive digital experience that provides access to spaces as they are now in perpetuity. Visitors can learn about the history, life, and meaning of the place through labels and other audio-visual content during their digital visit. Oral histories and digitized archival material can be presented through the tour as well.
